A notebook app for field researchers who work on coasts, hills and ice, often for days without signal.

Product design, iOS and Android

The problem

Researchers were writing on paper, photographing the pages and typing them up at night. Data got lost between the notebook and the spreadsheet.

What we did

Everything works offline first and syncs when it can. Counts, photos, voice notes and GPS sit on one page per observation, with buttons big enough to use in gloves.

Used by 14 university field teams in its first season. Teams report saving about six hours a week on write-ups, and nothing has been lost to a flat battery yet.

It's the first app our team uses in the rain without swearing at it.
